Widespread on moorland, but local and uncommon in other habitats.
Rosie thought that it was widespread but not common and there are only a handful of records from four of the Rothamsted sites.

UK abundance has decreased severely and distribution significantly since 1970 (cf: Atlas of Britain & Ireland's Larger Moths)
First and last flight dates recorded in Caithness: 28th May to 1st August (one late record 13th August)
